Since 1973, Mark Roth has provided custom-tied flies to fly-fishermen and fly shops, and since 1988 has specialized in designing framed fly plates, shadowbox kits, and custom fly framing for shops, fly collectors, and the American Museum of Fly Fishing, (among others).

     I specialize in mounting and framing collectible flies, creating fly plates, in conservation museum cherry frames and matting. The presentation is simple, yet elegant, first class quality. On the left, Fly Plate #12, is 17" square, with the name of each fly hand-scribed, hand-drawn gold and black French lines on the matting, and a cherry veneer label with brass pins.

     The flies are mounted in a recessed shadowbox-depth frame, mounted with a discreet wire securely wrapped around the fly, allowing the fly to 'float', while holding the fly above the background, without the hackles getting squashed, and giving an appealing three-dimensional presentation. I also mill the frames from scratch in my woodshop, from cherry wood I hand select at the hardwood supplier.
